WE collaborative projects: SEPS Productive uses of wind energy

The SEPS project on productive uses of small wind, supported by WISIONS, continues.

WE member organization 500RPM and Wind Empowerment individual members collaborate in this project, which aims to identify productive uses for electricity generated by small wind turbines and implement pilot systems supporting economic activities of rural regions in Argentina.

500RPM sent us the latest updates from the project:

“During 2019 we installed the second pilot test. The Piggott wind turbine was installed at the home of Ena, a rural horticultural producer in the Patagonian steppe, whose problem is access to water in her orchard to grow lettuce. The objective: by means of the electrical energy generated with the wind turbine, a water pump is fed that allows to see a larger surface for lettuce production.

This installation was carried out by the 500RPM team (active member of Wind Empowerment) and INTA (National Institute of Agricultural Technology). The participation of INTA in this project is important, since from this institution we obtained two very important lessons:

a) in the problem of water, irrigation management (used irrigation technique), is just as important as the pumping solution of water obtained through the wind turbine;

b) The cultivation of products with greater added value represents a better use of the system.

During the next 2 months we will get the first results to be shared. In the first months of 2020 the third installation is planned, focused on solving another of the extended productive uses of the rural world: rural tourism.”
