“Winds of hope” project wins the “Solidarity Schools” Presidential Award in Argentina

Our friends in the Don Bosco Integral Training Center in Bariloche, Argentina won the Presidential Award “Solidarity Schools” for “Winds of Hope” – a project that was implemented with the participation of WE member organisation “500rpm”

The Don Bosco Integral Training Center in San Carlos de Bariloche was recognized with the Presidential Award “Solidarity Schools”. This national program rewards initiatives undertaken to improve the quality of life of the communities.

The students of the “Don Bosco” school presented the “Winds of Hope” project for the construction of wind turbines for 60 families of “El Corralito”, a place located 120 kilometers from Bariloche and whose economy is based on different agricultural activities.

With the commitment to safeguard the planet and improve the quality of life of rural people, the school, the NGO 500 RPM and Diocesan Caritas of Bariloche built and installed a low-power wind turbine for the poultry products and food manufacturing center of the Pichí Cullín Agricultural Cooperative. This equipment may be used by all residents of the area to charge private batteries and thus generate lighting in homes.

During 2019, 896 institutions from all over the country participated in “Solidarity Schools” and 11 projects from the provinces of Tucumán (3), Río Negro (2), Buenos Aires (2), Catamarca, Chaco, Chubut and Mendoza were finalists. The activity is organized by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Science and Technology of the Nation.
