[WEOnline2020] Education WG Session

November 21, 2020 @ 4:30 pm - 6:30 pm

Agenda

Introduction

by Adrien Prévost Wind Empowerment Education Working group coordinator

Education is the key to locally manufactured small wind turbines (LMSWT) technology dissemination and evolution. At school, wind turbines are a good case study to understand physics, while it raises awareness about renewable energy. On the field, education to maintenance makes the community of wind pilots able to take good care of their wind turbine and repair them in case of trouble, empowering energy production communities leading to more resilience. In several countries, education through LMSWT building courses enable small businesses to function.
This roundtable will cover different aspects of education to LMSWT across the continents.

Developing small wind through education and education through small wind

by Jay Hudnall founder of Ti’éole, co-founder of Tripalium and EolEcole, France

Practical education taylored to pupil interaction across all sociatal bounds

by Nick Warren, executive director of Windaid Institute, Peru

WindAid creates hands-on interactive educational opportunities with rural Peruvian community members, school-age students, university scholars, and international professionals from around.  This collaborative environment gives an understanding of wind energy and sustainability generally, and their effects on a macro and especially micro level. Through this better understanding of climate change impact and the benefits of renewable energies in it, people at every level have been empowered to create a positive impact, and been given the tools, insight, and connections to do so.

Energy-in-a-box Solutions – promoting small wind technology from local materials

by Karana Olivier, founder of KOC Bridges to Peace, Ivory Coast

Energy in Box solutions offers an affordable, reliable, and easy to maintain solution in the form of adapted technologies. Our product is a micro wind turbine built entirely from locally available and recycled materials found in most African junkyards. The units cost less than 25 US dollars to produce and provide from 25 to 200 watts of power to charge car batteries that many rural African communities rely on as a primary source of power. Karana will describe his process for bringing this technology to low income communities.

Small wind turbine online courses

by Manuel Perez, member of 500RPM, Argentina

500RPM will briefly show the dynamic of the online courses, showing the tools used, the results in 2020 and the potential to other organisations and also to WE. Also, propose to make a first online course with WE.

Wind turbines 3D kits as a pedagogical support, by Damian Planes, member of 500RPM, Argentina
