2nd WindEmpowerment Conference

Dear WindEmpowerment Members,

We are pleased to announce that planning for the second WindEmpowerment conference has begun and we hope to make the event a reality this year.

Kostas Latoufis and the NTUA (National Technical University of Athens) have kindly offered to host the event in Greece. They have a wealth of facilities, including classrooms/lecture theatres for presentations, laborotory equipment for demostrations (wind tunnel, an electrical bench testing rig and a test site on the coast) and workshop space for other practical activities. The program will include practical workshops, round table discussions, presentations, laborotory demostrations, field trips and much more. The event follows on from the inaugural WindEmpowerment conference in Dakar in 2011 and is expected to last one week. It is designed to bring together people and organisations from around the world who are working with small wind turbines in the field of rural electrification and will allow participants to meet new people, learn new skills and share experiences.

In order to plan effectively for the event, we need to know how many of you are interested in attending. We plan to apply for funding to run the event, however we need to know how much to apply for and how many people would still be able to attend if our funding application was not successful.

Please email Jon Sumanik-Leary (jon.sl@windempowerment.org) if you are interested in attending the WE conference, stating whether:

You are able to cover your own travel costs.
You would need assistance with your travel costs if you are to attend.
Please could you then fill in the following Doodle poll, letting us know which weeks you’re free. Please note that in addition to selecting “Yes” or “No” for each week, you can also select “(Yes)”, which means that you can make it if absolutely necessary, but you would rather it be on a different week if at all possible.

Many thanks,
Jon
